Dr. Austin received her Bachelor of Science (Maj. Vet tech) from the University of Queensland, Australia, in 2006. After her graduation, Dr. Austin moved to the other side of her beautiful, sunny country, to the most isolated city in the world (Perth, Australia), to begin her veterinary degree at Murdoch University. 5 years later, she received a dual degree in Veterinary Biology and Veterinary Medicine and Surgery in 2011. After a total of 8 years of schooling, Dr. Austin packed her things, her beloved labrador & fluffy cat, and made the big move to the USA, first settling in the beautiful Hudson Valley New York to work as a mixed animal veterinarian and later as an emergency clinician. After 3 years upstate, Dr. Austin moved to the big apple to continue her veterinary education. After completing a rotating small animal internship in Brooklyn, NY, she continued to pursue her passion for Emergency and general medicine working in the New York City area In her spare time, Dr. Austin fosters dogs for a local NYC rescue (she’s up to number 18!) And she finally caved and adopted the oldest one a 13-year-old toothless, hairless (not anymore!) little lady chihuahua 11 months ago! She also tries to get in some time riding horses, hike, at the beach, snowboarding, or going for a long run. Along with her foster dogs Dr. Austin shares her NYC apartment with her fluffy ragdoll cat Audrey. Her professional interests include; Emergency and critical care, Dentistry, aged care, analgesia, and physical therapy.

She received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Portland and her Doctorate of Medicine from Oregon State University. JoAnna Pendergrass, DVM is a veterinarian and freelance medical writer in Atlanta, GA. After earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, she pursued a non-traditional career path as a veterinarian. JoAnna completed a 2-year postdoctoral research fellowship in neuroscience at Emory University’s Yerkes National Primate Research Center, then became a medical writer.
