Whether this is your first pet or not, adopting a new dog into our family, this is a really important decision.
Before doing so, read these:
Puppies are cute: A lot of people adopt dogs while they are still puppies and they don't keep in mind that they aren't fully developed yet and they for sure are going to grow a bit or a LOT. This is actually one of the most common reasons why people abandon animals. So, please be if the cute dog you adopted turns into a big fur baby, love him the same.
The size of your home: If your fur friend is going to be inside and you live in a small home or an apartment, is better to get a smaller dog. This way the pup will be more comfortable.
Your backyard: Do you have a fenced backyard were a larger pet could exercise before heading inside? This is really important for breeds like Labradors, Golden Retrievers and Huskies that are full of energy and in need of daily physical activity.
Your schedule: Do you have time to take the dog out for a walk? Is the dog going to spend a lot of time alone? If you don't have the time and aren't okay with making the time, maybe is not the time for you do get a pet. Remember, they need to be loved and taken care of.
Family: Always keep in mind the other people in the home that are going to be in contact with the pup. This is a huge decision, and everybody needs to be okay with it. This will avoid any confrontation in the future.
Are you financially ready?: It's no secret, dogs are expensive. Before adopting one you need to be ready to pay for vet visits, food, snacks, toys, and grooming.
Do you have the patience?: Dogs are really smart and can easily be house trained, but they don’t come that way. You’ll need to be patient and help them understand what is good and what is bad.
Be ready to fall in love: If this is your first puppy, this might sound funny, but dogs can become an important part of the family and the love they give is unmeasurable.
Get ready to fall in love with this cute creature, to talk to him like he understands and to have an excited being waiting for you every time you get home.
